About the project
Early in 2026, I had the opportunity to work on a couple of projects with Scripture in Motion—and this project in particular presented some unique and interesting challenges!

In order to tackle the high-level abstract concepts in the video, the art direction for the John 14 video centers around simple shapes, limited color, and meaningful transitions.

For the visual language inspiration—including shape, color, and texture—we were inspired by Bauhaus posters from the 1920s.

Animation transitions were a key component of the storytelling, so there was a lot of planning and discussion for how each frame would lead into the next.

Suggesting movement using only simple shapes and lines—when the object was remaining in the same position on the screen—was its own challenge to tackle. We achieved this using relative movement of solid-line forms.

The kaleidoscope effect had its own set of challenges, which took some trial and error to solve! We set up restrictions to stay within the simple-shape rules, while still creating a wider variety of shapes to swirl around the screen.
